Annual Scientific Meeting SCS

Dear friends and colleagues,

This will be an exciting year for the SCS 30th Annual Scientific Meeting! With the theme "Future of Cardiology and Beyond", we are putting together a comprehensive educational program targeted at multiple levels of treatment for the cardiac patient.

We are extremely pleased to collaborate with the Endocrine and Metabolic Society of Singapore to run key session on LDL lowering with PCSK9 inhibitor, reviewing updates in guidelines, latest trials and practical approaches. We will also be having joint sessions with international cardiology bodies such as the American College of Cardiology (ACC), the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) and the Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand (CSANZ). In these sessions, you will be able to update your knowledge with the latest highlights of their congresses (right off the press), guidelines and trials. Other highlights include pre congress workshops on Point-of-Care Ultrasound and prehospital cardiac care session on high quality CPR, in collaboration with Unit for Pre-Hospital Emergency Care in Singapore. We are also continuing the tradition of the C-Factor, A Pulsating Cardiac Challenge for all cardiology trainees in Singapore. Come and update your cardiovascular knowledge as you see our cardiology trainees fight for this coveted C-Factor.

We will also address other cardiology topics such as coronary artery disease, tackling the heart failure pandemic and optimizing anticoagulation for stroke prevention in patients with atrial fibrillation. We are also tailoring our program to include nurses and allied healthcare providers in overall management of the different sub-specialities of cardiovascular care. In the main dinner symposium, we will like to raise the awareness of structural heart disease and interventions in Singapore. We will explore the management of these complex valvular cases using the “Heart Team” approach for interventional strategies and discuss the optimal management options for these patients.

We continue the program on Sunday morning with our commitment to fight the ‘War against Diabetes” and addressing other key topics in cardiology such as cardio-oncology. Over the past decade, the cardiovascular care of patients with cancer has evolved as a subspecialty driven by novel therapies that can cure or control patients, allowing many patients to be living long enough to experience the potential cardiotoxic effects of these treatments. We hope to raise this awareness and address important clinical topics relevant to the cardiovascular health of patients with cancer. In addition, we will be having an ECG workshop entitled “ECG One on One: Ask the Experts”.

Come and hear the best science from your colleagues in Singapore in the Young Investigator's Award Competition and Free Paper Sessions. We have the honour to listen to the SCS lecture to be delivered by Associate Professor Ding Zee Pin. We also congratulate Prof Koh Tian Hai who will be receiving the Singapore Cardiac Society Lifetime Achievement Award.
