ABOUT SINGAPORE

Climate
The island is warm and has humidity all year round with an average temperature of maximum 32 ^oC and minimum of 23 ^oC.

The average temperature in March is between 24°C to 31°C. Most indoor facilities are fitted with air-conditioning; a light jacket for gentlemen or shawl for ladies is recommended.

Credit Card and Currency 
Major credit and charge cards are widely accepted. The local currency used is Singapore dollar and cents (SGD). 
Banks and money changers are located in major shopping centres and airport terminals to facilitate exchange.

Tipping
Tipping is not practised as most hotels and restaurants in Singapore already levy a 10% service charge on customers' bills. Tipping is not a way of life in Singapore and is prohibited at the airport. 

Electricity 
Singapore voltage is 220-240 volts AC, 50 cycles per second. On request, most hotels will provide transformers to visitors with electrical appliances of a different voltage, such as 110-120 volts, 60 cycles per second. When shopping for electrical appliances, do remember to check the voltage of the item against the acceptable voltage in your home country. The power plugs used in Singapore are of the three-pin, square-shaped type. 

Time Zone 
Singapore is 8 hours ahead of Greenwich Mean Time (+8GMT). 

Passport Validity 
Do ensure your passport is valid for at least 6 months before arriving in Singapore.

Abstract Guidelines & Template

Please submit abstracts for the free paper sessions to the SCS email address This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. You will receive an email reply within five days to acknowledge receipt of your abstracts. If not, please contact the Secretariat at Tel: 6735 6580 for confirmation.

Please indicate whether the abstract is eligible for the “Young Investigator Award” (Y.I.A.). Abstracts without any indication will not be considered for Y.I.A. There are 3 major criteria for Y.I.A eligibility:

• The first author must be below 40 years old at end of 2017.
• The research work must be done locally in Singapore, with the first author playing a major role in the study.
• The research must be original, not previously published or accepted for publication in any form, including electronic publication, at the time of submission

The 6 best eligible abstracts will be selected for the Y.I.A. Oral Presentation. Prizes will be awarded to all 6 presenters as first, second and third prizes in 2 categories of basic sciences and clinical sciences.

Abstracts that are not eligible for YIA may be considered for free paper oral presentation. Prizes will also be awarded to the top 3 to 4 free paper oral presenters.

The closing date of abstract submission is 12^th February 2018. Please note that late entries may not be considered and may not be printed in the abstract book. Notification of abstract acceptance will be announced latest by 28^th February 2018.
